Excellent news! Nawarra is coming down to Ponsanooth, Cornwall, over the weekend of May 6th and 7th 2017 to share with us her amazing energy and dance skills. Nawarra, meaning ‘flower’ is the first Arabic folkloric dance teacher to be based in the UK. From Morocco herself, she specialises in the dances of her homeland and other Maghrebi (N. African) countries. Nawarra has a warm teaching style and her vitality is infectious!
Here is the flyer giving more information about this weekend of workshops. Saturday is devoted to Moroccan dance, earthy and cheerful. It’ll be interesting to see how the Reggada stick dancing will feel compared with the more familiar Egyptian saidi style.
Sunday’s taste of Khaleejy dance will be a really new experience since we’ve never danced this style before. From what I’ve seen, hair swaying and tossing is a definite feature of this, though not obligatory, so you can look after your necks with no worries! Then the Nubian dance is really cheerful with great rhythms, an upbeat finish to the weekend.
